ALF’s Pacific Coast Division serves San Diego County, Imperial Valley and Hawaii.  We are fortunate to be part of a national organization with centralized education, finance and human resource departments.  However, as a division, we’re responsible for delivering the mission of the American Liver Foundation locally.  In addition to organizing our educational events, we raise the funds necessary to keep the division office open, while also helping to support our national HelpLine (800-GO-LIVER) and Research Awards Program.

ALF’s work locally is guided by a Division Board of Directors, under the leadership of Terry Cunningham.  A Medical Advisory Committee, under the leadership of Rohit Loomba, MD.  As well as an Associate Medical Advisory Committee, under the leadership of Lisa Richards, MSN, FNP-BC.  These volunteer leaders, and everyone who serves on their committees, help direct our efforts to address the needs of those affected by liver disease.

The Pacific Coast Division has three professional staff who work with our volunteers and unpaid interns to provide the support and structure necessary to fulfill our mission: to promote education, advocacy, support services and research for the prevention, treatment and cure of liver disease.

Together our volunteers and staff leadership work towards the shared vision of A World Without Liver Disease.  If you are interested in learning more about how you can join the efforts of our ALF Team, please let us know.

Scott Suckow
Executive Director
Pacific Coast Division

The Pacific Coast Division held our Ask the Experts Educational Forum on Saturday, June 30th at the LGBT Community Center in Hillcrest.  We would like to thank Dr. Gutierrez, Dr. Gish, and Dr. Ramers for their presentations which received excellent reviews.

We would also like to thank UCSD’s Linguistic Language Program.  For the first time, at one of our educational programs, we were able to provide interpreters for 6 promotoras who attended the program from City Heights.

One of the attendees wrote “Thank you to the Doctors and everyone at the American Liver Foundation for putting together this discussion on Liver Health.”

If you missed the Forum, you can view Dr. Gutierrez, Dr. Gish and Dr. Ramers presenting on HBV, HCV and Coinfection HIV/HCV on our Youtube Channel HERE.

For more information on upcoming Ask the Experts Programs please contact Peggy Beers, ALF Community Outreach and Education Manager at Phone 619-291-5483 or by e-mail mbeers@liverfoundation.org

Meet Mary Hubbard!

Mary Hubbard is the Owner and Executive Director for MARSTE Training Services, which provides services in the area of recovery coaching to special populations, continuing education training to licensed and certified professionals and academic education to students wanting to become certified.
